Description
- Mahua oil shall be obtained by expression of clean and sound kernals of either Madhuca indica S.F. Gmelina, syn. Madhuca latifoliate or Madhuca longifolia or a mixture of both.
- the oils shall be refined by oils, sediments, suspended matter, neutralization with alkali and/or by mineral oil, separated water and added physical refining, bleaching with colouring and flavouring substances and bleaching earth and/or activated carbon and deodorized with steam. No other chemical agent shall be used.
General Requirements
- The oil shall be clear and free from turbidity when a filtered sample is kept at 500C for 24 hours. The oil shall be free from rancidity, adulterants, foreign substances, other obnoxious odour. The oil may contain permitted anti-oxidants not exceeding in concentration as specified under Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules 1955.
