The Indian Backwater Oyster Crassostrea madrasensis is the most important edible oyster exploited (90.1%), followed by the Rock Oyster Saccostrea cucullata (5.9%) and Windowpane Oyster Placuna placuna (3.6%) along the Indian Coast.
