o   MANGOES MUST BE FREE FROM DISEASE OR SERIOUS DETERIORATION WHICH APPRECIABLY AFFECTS THEIR APPEARANCE, EDIBILITY OR KEEPING QUALITY. IN PARTICULAR, MANGOES AFFECTED BY ROTTING, EVEN IF THE SINGS ARE VERY SLIGHT BUT LIABLE TO MAKE THE PRODUCE UNFIT FOR CONSUMPTION UPON ARRIVAL AT THEIR DESTINATION, ARE TO BE EXCLUDED.

o   MANGOES SHOWING THE FOLLOWING DEFECTS ARE THEREFORE EXCLUDED:

§  HOT WATER SCALD POST-HARVEST DISEASE CONTROL MAY INCLUDE DIPPING IN HOT WATER. DAMAGE MAY OCCUR WHEN FRUIT IS EXPOSED TO EXCESSIVE WATER TEMPERATURE OR DURATION.

§  BRUSHING DAMAGE

o   THIS PROVISION APPLIES TO MANGOES STORED OR TRANSPORTED UNDER POOR CONDITIONS, WHICH HAVE CONSEQUENTLY RESULTED IN THEIR ABSORBING ABNORMAL SMELLS AND/OR TASTES, IN PARTICULAR THROUGH THE PROXIMITY OF OTHER PRODUCT WHICH GIVE OFF VOLATILE ODOURS.

·       THE DEVELOPMENT AND CONDITION OF THE MANGOES MUST BE SUCH AS TO ENABLE THEM:

o   TO WITHSTAND TRANSPORTATION AND HANDLING

§  HARVEST AT AN ADVANCED STAGE OF MATURITY AND RIPENESS (SENESCENT STAGE) MAY RESULT IN REDUCED SHELF LIFE. SUCH FRUIT IS MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO HARVEST AND POST-HARVEST DEFECTS OR INJURY.

o   TO ARRIVE IN SATISFACTORY CONDITION AT THE PLACE OF DESTINATION.
