Season

Wet Season : May-July

Spring / Winter : aug-sept/ Dec-Jan

Summer Season : Feb-March

Climate

i) Warm season crop, highly susceptible to frost. Dry wind results in dropping of 0 0 blossoms. Average monthly temperature 20 - 25 C. 0 0

ii) High temperature above 38 C - 40 C adversely affects the fruit set & development.

Temperature

i) Above 32 C & below 13 C - dangerous.

ii) High temperature: leads to heterstylosis, increased abscission, reduced fruit set flower drop ; high temperature with high humidity favours development of foliage diseases iii) Low temperature increased flower size, reduced pollen viabilit

Nursery

: Nursery Management - Tips to be followed & monitored :

i) Sow the seeds in Pro trays of 98 cavities by using the sterilised cocopeat as a media, th

ii) At 7 day after sowing mild spray with Uthane M-45 @ 1g/litre of H O + Ulala 2 0.3 g/litre of H O or Saaf @ 1g/litre of H O + Ulala 0.2 g/litre of H O 2 2 2 th

iii) At 15 day after sowing spray with Saaf @ 1g/litre of H O + Ulala 0.2 g/litre 2 of H O 2 th

iv) At 21 day after sowing spray with Uthane M-45 @ 1g/litre of H O + Ulala 2 0.3 g/litre of H O or Saaf @ 1g/litre of H O + Ulala 0.2 g/litre of H O 2 2 2

v) At 28 days after sowing spray with Saaf @ 1g/litre of H O + Ulala 0.2 g/litre 2 of H O + 19:19:19 (Soluble) @ 1g/litre H O 2 2

vi) Hardening of seedlings is must before transplanting, Seedling will be ready for transplanting in 25-28 days after sowing. Transplanting has to be done preferable in evening hours to avoid sun shock & mortality.

Soil & Land Preparation

i) Well drained, fairly light fertile loam with fair moisture holding capacity is ideal.

PH: 6-7, deep ploughing and harrowing.

ii) Add well decomposed FYM: 8-10 tones / acre.

iii) Make the ridges and furrows at the required spacing.

iv) Irrigate the field and make the Cavities at the recommended spacing.

v) Transplanting should be done during late afternoon or evening, after transplanting light irrigation should be given for quick and better establishment.

Seed Rate

40-50 g/acre

Irrigation

Irrigate as & when required based on the soil type & the local practices

Spacing

i) Row to Row : 90 cm & Plant to Plant : 45 cm or

ii) Row to Row : 120 cm & Plant to Plant : 45 cm

Growth Regulator

i) 2,4-D @ 2 ppm & NAA @ 1ppm-for fruit set;

ii) Bo-for cracking

iii) NAA @ 20-40 ppm - to reduce flower & fruit drop iv) NAA @ 50 ppm improve fruit quality/taste

v) Ethrel-@ 600 ppm during fruiting - for ripening & colour

vi) Bo-To avoid fruit cracking

vii) GA3 for earlt & uniform germination
